I’ll forever be thankful to my parents for pushing me into flute lessons as a child because that kicked off the series of events that led me to where I am today. I’ve always been shy and socially awkward but music has been my escape and comfort throughout life’s trials and tribulations. Emotions have always felt intense or confusing for me, so finding a song that encapsulated and explained my feelings made me feel less alone. I hope to give that sense of comfort to other people through my lyrics.

I finished college at the beginning of the pandemic. I had a love for music but never considered it as a career due to my introverted nature but the lockdowns gave me more time to explore my creativity. I kept writing songs alongside other creative pursuits that fuelled my soul . When the lockdowns lifted I tried the conventional approach to adult life, working a 9-5, but I found myself miserable and constantly drained. I thought I just wasn’t ready to be an adult so I decided to go to university, maybe a few more years in education would make me mature. But I suppose that little whisper of a dream got its way because I ended up studying music at ACM.

I consider myself a ‘Jack of all trades’ when it comes to music, forever learning new skills and instruments in order to bring my ideas to life. That being said, I’m no ‘one man band’, I work with a small but wonderful team to carve out a space for Laena Hughes in the music industry.
